Search photos by EXIF tags

With SearchMyDiscs program, you can search photos by EXIF tags. For example, you can find all photographs made with the sensitivity ISO 800, or with the focal length of 300 mm, or by certain digital camera.

You can search photos by EXIF tags in two ways using our disk cataloging program:

1) Searching photo files by descriptions

Normally, the program scans your DVD disks and stores all EXIF tags it finds inside image files. The program supports searching files by their descriptions. Press the F3 key and to bring up the search form. You need to enter a part of EXIF description correctly so the program would find the files corresponding to the search string.

Take a look at EXIF descriptions stored for photos in the program. You need to write the Description search string in the same format. This method is not very comfortable because you can use only one search condition at a time and you need to write the search string in the correct format. I.e. you need to write a part of an existing description if you want to find something. Otherwise, the program will not find anything. You also need to privide a correct file mask for searching photos. For example, *.jpg. See the example on the image above. It contains a correct search string. If you write "ISO:800" you will find nothing because there are no such strings in EXIF file descriptions stored by the program even if you have shots made with ISO 800.

But the description photo search has a good advantage. You can search photos by IPTC tags. If your photos have IPTC tags write a tag into the Description search string field and click Search.

The next EXIF searching method is simpler and more flexible when you need to search photo by EXIF tags only.

2) Searching photos by EXIF tags

We added a more human-adapted EXIF searching form to the program. :)

Select the Search by EXIF item in the Search menu or click the corresponding button on the toolbar.

Select a condition and enter parameters corresponding to the condition. For example, you can search photos for some specific camera model, focal lens range, ISO range, apperture range, shutter speed range according to EXIF tags stored in the disk database.

You can add several search conditions at a time.

Below, you can select what type of files you want to search: JPEG or RAW.
